Data credits
LocalTee’s courses are built from open map data, open elevation data and open tree-canopy data. Thank you to everyone who collects and shares it. The credits and licences are below.
Course maps
Course layouts (greens, fairways, tees, bunkers, water, paths, buildings and roads) come from OpenStreetMap.
- © OpenStreetMap contributors. The data is available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL).
- We turn it into 3D courses and combine it with the elevation and tree data below.
- Some courses were drawn by LocalTee players with our Course Builder. Those hole lines are traced by hand over the aerial imagery credited further down.
- Share-alike: if you would like the OpenStreetMap-derived data in our courses, email support@golfsimpleapp.com and we will send it under the ODbL.
- Covered by this offer: course features that come from OpenStreetMap (greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, water, paths, roads, buildings and wooded areas), and OpenStreetMap features we corrected or edited. This applies to every course, including courses built in Course Builder, because those also use OpenStreetMap data for anything we did not draw.
- Not covered, because LocalTee created it: hole routing lines and par, course boundaries and features drawn from scratch in Course Builder, scorecard data (handicaps and yardages), and the game and its software.
Terrain (elevation)
Ground height comes from the open AWS Terrain Tiles, a mix of public elevation datasets, and from Canada’s own 1 m LiDAR model where it exists. Their required credits:
- Canada: Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada. Source: Natural Resources Canada, High Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) Mosaic and Canadian Digital Elevation Model (CDEM).
- United States: 3DEP data courtesy of the U.S. Geological Survey. SRTM data courtesy of the U.S. Geological Survey. GMTED2010 data courtesy of the U.S. Geological Survey.
- Europe: terrain data produced using Copernicus data and information funded by the European Union (EU-DEM).

- Austria: terrain data © offene Daten Österreichs – Digitales Geländemodell (DGM) Österreich.
- Mexico: terrain data source: INEGI, Continental relief, 2016.

Trees
Where trees really stand, we use tree-canopy heights from the High Resolution Canopy Height Maps by Meta and World Resources Institute (WRI), licensed CC BY 4.0. Source imagery for the canopy maps © 2016 Maxar. We resampled the heights to a coarse grid and use them to place trees.
Aerial imagery used to draw courses
When players map a course in Course Builder, they trace it over open aerial imagery. The imagery is only a visual reference. It is not shown in the game. The sources, by area:
- United States: USDA NAIP imagery via the USGS (public domain), and USGS National Map imagery.
- Ontario, Canada: imagery © King’s Printer for Ontario (Ontario Imagery Web Map Service).
- France: © IGN, Licence Ouverte Etalab 2.0.
- Netherlands: © Beeldmateriaal Nederland / PDOK, CC BY 4.0.
- Spain: © PNOA, Instituto Geográfico Nacional, CC BY 4.0.

Course names and likenesses
The courses in LocalTee are unofficial likenesses: our own interpretation of real places, drawn from open map data and similar sources, and in some cases made entirely by us. A course name is used only to say which real place a course resembles. LocalTee is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any golf course, club, resort, owner or operator, and their names, logos and trademarks belong to them. Layouts, distances, elevations and features are approximate and may differ from the real course, and nothing in LocalTee is an official representation of any course. If you own or manage a course and would like a likeness changed or removed, email support@golfsimpleapp.com and we will respond promptly.
